BIOGRAPHIE
Ziad Siala (Department of Antiquity of Libya) Bio. My interest in cultural heritage began while I was studying business administration and information technology, where I worked as a tour guide and tour manager during the academic vacation period. After my graduation, I devoted myself to this work, becoming a trainer for tour guides and an archaeological guide. After the 2011 war, I worked with UNESCO and the World Bank on several projects related to protecting cultural heritage in Libya, where I played several roles from advisor to trainer and project manager. After the events of 2014 in Tripoli, I developed a proposal and oversaw the implementation of the project “Conservation of Historic Photographs in the Red Castle in Tripoli”, a project funded by the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) in cooperation with the Libyan Department of Antiquities, the American archaeological mission, and Oberlin College. In 2016, I received a Chevening scholarship to obtain a master’s degree in international Cultural Heritage Management from Durham University in 2017. Since 2018, I have been the head of the World Heritage Sites Office at the Libyan Department of Antiquities. This office is dedicated to supporting local administrators in managing and preserving World Heritage sites and assisting in efforts to remove them from the List of World Heritage in Danger.
