BIOGRAPHIE

Dr. Shadia Mahmoud is a Director General (DG) at Minister Office, Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities, Egypt. She earned a Bachelor's in Egyptology from Cairo University and became senior curator and head of collection management at Nubia Museum in 1995. Dr. Shadia obtained her Master of Arts and Doctorate in Museum Science from Texas Tech University, and she conducted her postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan, USA. After her fifteen-year career as a head of collection management department at Nubia Museum, Dr. Shadia became a museology specialist at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), contributing to the museum's scenario implementation. In 2013, Dr. Shadia was assigned to work in the Minister Office as a DG of the department of international organizations for cultural heritage where she acted as a coordinator between the Minister office, museums, and inspectorates and the international organizations such as UNESCO, ICOM, ICCROM, ISESCO, etc. She drafted multiple bilateral agreements aimed at safeguarding Egypt's cultural heritage. Dr. Shadia led workshops on risk preparedness, illicit trafficking, and World Heritage Site management. Shadia possesses extensive professional experience as a specialist in cultural heritage and museology. She developed a strong interest in the intangible heritage of Nubia and Southeast Asia. In particular, she focused on topics like sustainable development, community engagement in heritage management. Shadia engaged more with influential decision-makers and thought leaders in international policy. She’s open to challenges, conversations, and an exchange of ideas from the top players in the cultural heritage. For her most recent years, Shadia engaged with the African World Heritage Fund, first as a member of the board of trustees and then as the chairman of the technical committee. Shadia is a partner of both Lincoln University and Ain Shams University.
