BIOGRAPHIE
Dr. Jayshree Mungur-Medhi is an archaeologist and heritage professional in Mauritius. She is also an expert in the UNESCO Global Network of Facilitators for Intangible Cultural Heritage. She obtained her PhD in History and Civilisations after a master degree in Quaternary and Prehistory and another master in Ancient History, Culture and Archaeology. She excels herself in Archaeology of Slavery. She is well trained and experienced in Field Archaeology, Heritage Conservation and Management, Intangible Cultural Heritage and Museum Management and Faunal Analysis. She won awards and fellowships enabling her studies and participation in international projects. She has been part of research and heritage projects, at the national and international levels, including UNESCO nomination dossiers for World Heritage and ICH. She is very conversant with all the UNESCO conventions on Heritage. Her research interest is Slavery, Indenture in the Indian Ocean and traditional knowledge. Some of her projects are Archaeology of Aapravasi Ghat WHP and Archaeology of Le Morne Cultural Landscape W sites; Archaeological Investigation of Moulin a Poudre Mauritius among others. She is also a part time lecturer on the subjects at the University of Mauritius. As one of the founders of Our Heritage Foundation, an NGO, she develops integrated and inclusive heritage projects with local communities in rural areas in Mauritius.
