BIOGRAPHIE

Paballo Sandisiwe Mohafa is a Deputy Director: Integrated Environment and Conservation Management at the Fossil Hominid Sites of Sterkfontein, Swartkrans and Environs (FHSSSKE), a component of the Fossil Hominid Sites of South Africa from March 2020 to present. My primary role as the Deputy Director- Integrated Environment and Conservation Management (currently Acting Director / Site Manager) is to conserve the uniqueness and integrity of the site, engage with stakeholders on e.g. water pollution; Develop and facilitate workshops, education and awareness Programmes on e.g. fire, water, alien and invasive species; implement community beneficiation projects; recording and monitoring of fossil sites; conducting the Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool assessment. Application of various integrated environmental management tools, such as SEAs, EIA, and EMPrs. She has 18 years’ experience in the management of world heritage sites. Her working career started at the Mapungubwe Cultural Landscape as a Cultural Heritage Manager where she served for seven (7) years. In July 2013, she joined the South African Focal point to the World Heritage Convention as an Assistant Director: World Heritage Management. Here she was responsible for the monitoring compliance of South African world heritage properties with the World Heritage Convention and domestic legislation. She poses a range of expertise in Heritage Impact Assessments, Rock Art Management, Disaster Risk Management, Integrated / Conservation Management Plans, State of Conservation reports, Biodiversity management, Nomination of world heritage properties and Stakeholder Engagement. She is currently responsible for the overall management and coordination of the natural and cultural resources of the FHSSSKE.
