BIOGRAPHIE

Marshet Girmay Endeshaw has received his first degree in History from Bahirdar University, Ethiopia, where he has also graduated his master’s degree in history and master’s degree in educational leadership in the same year, 2012. His PhD Degree is in Social Anthropology from the University of Gondar, Ethiopia, on January 26, 2024. Marshet Girmay is an Assistant Professor of History in the University of Gondar since 2015. He was an ex-department head for the department of history and heritage management in the University of Gondar. In his three years’ service as head of the department, he won the annual best department award at the College of Social Sciences and the Humanities in 2016, and best department annual award at the university level in 2018. He had successfully organized Meqedela@150 international conference in April 2018 as head of the department of history and heritage management and was given certificate of recognition from the University of Gondar. Marshet Girmay so far produced five solo authored articles on heritage management related issues and three articles in team on indigenous knowledge in ecology. He has presented around 10 research works at different international and national research conferences including on the Arusha international Conference in Tanzania, organized by UNESCO in May 2016. He has attended in different trainings where he received certificate of recognition. The followings are examples: Training on “Operational Research Protocol Development”, in 2015 organized by University of Gondar, Ethiopia; the Hiob Ludolf Center Summer School Trainings on “Ethiopian and Eritrean Manuscript Studies: Methods and Challenges, 25-30 September 2017, Hamburg, Germany, and in 2016, 2018 and 2019 he was validated as a lead trainer for the Core-skills under the connecting Classroom project, British Council, Ethiopia and has been delivering multiple trainings for school leaders and teachers across Ethiopia. His most recent interests after gaining PhD in Social anthropology are indigenous knowledge in ecology, biodiversity conservation through indigenous knowledge and heritage conservation. Since 2016 I consider myself as a UNESCO family member. In 2016 I have attended an international Conference at Arusha, Tanzania, organized by UNESCO where I have acquainted with new friends from all over the world who are heritage experts. Thus, I will contribute to UNESCO by sharing knowledge, pursuing professional career, and forming partnership with the university and other local heritage and tourism offices for the sustainable heritage conservation.
